MCAD provides assistance to students in several ways. Among them are the following.

Academic Advising

All students at MCAD are assigned an advisor to assist them in choosing classes appropriate to their degree program and personal goals.

Special problems and unusual circumstances should be referred to the Academic Advising staff in the Student Affairs Office.

Career Development

The mission of the Career Development Office is to enable every student to develop satisfying and meaningful careers after college, with the skills and experiences gained in the classroom.

The Career Development Office offers a variety of services, including assistance with resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and networking skills, and job and internship search tips. It also provides valuable reference materials and regularly shares job, internship, and freelance opportunities with students.

Counseling Psychologist

No problem is too big or small, and psychological services are free and confidential. If you’re feeling stressed, depressed and anxious, or experiencing challenges with relationships, family, chemical use, or academics, we encourage you to make an appointment with our on-campus psychologist.

The psychologist may also refer students to other mental health professionals outside of MCAD when necessary.

International Student Advising

The international student advisor helps international students adjust to the college and to American culture.

This person handles all immigration requirements and serves as a liaison between the United States Department of Homeland Security and MCAD's foreign students. In addition, the coordinator can act as intermediary between the student and other offices at the college, aiding in communication and guidance.

Learning Center

The Learning Center provides interdisciplinary support for all MCAD students, including face-to-face and online tutoring, an online writing and learning lab (MCAD OWLL), small and large group workshops, and in-class presentations, as well as accommodation services for students with disabilities. The Learning Center works with students to make them better learners and prioritizes equal access and opportunity for all students.

Disability Accommodation

Persons with disabilities have a right to equal opportunity as prescribed by law. MCAD is responsible for and dedicated to creating a barrier-free environment while empowering students to grow toward independence and self-assertion. Take note, though, that it is the individual student’s responsibility to make their needs known and request assistance.

MCAD offers reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access for students who self-disclose a documented disability. Support services for students with disabilities are managed through Disability Services, located within the Learning Center.

Peer Mentor Program

The Peer Mentor Program provides first-year MCAD students with a mentor and a small cohort of fellow first-year students to aid in the transition to college and give support in the areas of time management, study skills, technology, financial literacy, and more.

Peer Mentors are current students in good academic and social standing who have experience as successful leaders at MCAD. Through regular meetings and communication, mentors provide new students with a pathway to success at the college and support towards graduation to reach their academic and personal goals.
