What advice do you have for current MCAD students?

Focus on the work and not the grade. Gear your portfolio for the jobs that you want to apply for when you graduate.

Best thing you ever got/saw on the free shelf?

A duffle bag that I still store a bunch of my camping gear in.

Describe your internships.

I did a few web design/development internships. They really got my coding skills up to par as well as my UI design skills.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Piotr Szyhalski. He had brilliant things to say during critiques. He was great at helping students stimulate ideas.

Your biggest takeaway from MCAD?

Iteration. Ideas take time to evolve. Keep at it until you have a presentable solution.

Describe what you do for work and how you feel about it.

I'm a graphic designer with an illustration focus. Basically, I'm a creative gun for hire. I have always loved to draw and create art. It is incredible that I get to incorporate some of that into a way of making a livelihood.

How did you get your job?

Currently, I'm freelancing for a VR/AR company and am starting my own small agency. I mostly find work through word of mouth.

What inspires your work?

Learning new techniques by taking courses; Looking at artists on Behance and Instagram.

How do you feel about the Twin Cities?

It's home. I take full advantage of the outdoors here.

Current obsession?

Digital illustration. I host a digital illustration meetup at an agency in Minneapolis.
