Amazing Places and Imaginary Spaces (Exploring Landscape Art)

Artists have the ability to create amazing places through their artwork, whether these are beautiful real landscapes or fantastical worlds that live only in the imagination. Visualize real and imagined places, and learn how to create these places through drawings, paintings, collages, and sculptures. Discover artists like Heather Galler, who creates vibrant, whimsical, and patterned “landscape” paintings, and David Hockney, whose landscapes have a touch of the surreal. These artists share that an image of a landscape can be based on our own personal and unique vision. During the week, the class will take a mini field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to see how other artists have conveyed “dreamlands” in their works. Finally, on Friday we will display our dreamlike and personal landscapes for our families to to view and explore! / Open to students ages 9-12.
