Art Educator Workshop: Product Design for Educators (Online)

In this workshop geared towards educators, participants will learn interactive product design skills and how they are applied in the commercial world. The goal of this course is to bring together form and function to learn and create 2D and 3D products that are designed by creatively combining materials and digital media. The course will begin with research, ideation, and learning about the product design and development process. Prototyping categories will be explored, many inspired by IDEO and other industry leaders. Educators will learn about branding and marketing variables that impact products, and how skillfully designed visual images and products succeed in the marketplace. Participants may work individually, or collaboratively in teams on products that are of interest to them, drawing from a wide range of categories such as household, toys, personal, office, and more. Participants will make a pitch for their newly created product, and feedback will be given to individuals and teams on their overall process. The workshop will have a Design Thinking and sustainability focus and the participants will work collaboratively. Throughout the week, participants will gain hands-on project ideas and assignments that they can bring back to their own classrooms. / This class will have a ½ hour lunch break each day. / Graduate credit is available. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
