Beauty and the Beasts (Animal-Inspired Art) (Online)

All creatures big and small will be the theme of this week’s online art camp. We'll look at many cool examples of animal art by Franz Marc, Albrecht Durer, Eric Carle, Wang Yani, and Rosa Bonheur. We'll work from both imagination and observation to draw, paint, collage, and sculpt our furry, feathered, and fishy friends. Key concepts will be shapes, texture, and color mixing. / Open to students ages 6–12. This virtual class will meet daily via Google Meet/Zoom. A group meeting will be held from 9–11 a.m. The instructor will offer optional office hours in the afternoon. The morning meetings will consist of demonstrations, technique lessons, discussions, class activities, opportunities for students to ask questions, and check-ins. Students will be expected to work independently on projects outside of class.

Required hardware: A computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work; headphones or earbuds.

Required supplies for the first day Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; pencil and eraser; crayons; markers; black Sharpie; Prang watercolor set; scissors; glue stick (Elmer's brand); oil pastels; paper (80lb drawing paper) - two pieces of 12” x 18", and four pieces of 9” x 12"; patterned paper (like scrapbooking paper or wallpaper or thick wrapping paper) - one 9” x 12" sheet. Supplies will cost approximately $15.
