Bookmaking Workshop: Single-Signature Binding with a Hard Cover (Online)

Being able to put artwork into a bound form is a valuable tool for many artists. Whether a sequential series, a collection of similar works, or just to keep work safe, there are many reasons artists have done this throughout time. Although there are many ways to bind artwork, a single-signature is a simple form that is easy to work with and does not require a large amount of artwork to feel complete. The hard cover over the binding is a great way to keep artwork clean, damage free, and ready to share or ship if necessary. This book form is also lovely without artwork inside for use as a journal and/or sketchbook. In this workshop, students will make blank books, but will thoroughly discuss how one could add artwork to the form. Examples of books made from art will be shown. / Open to students ages 16 and above. View complete policies.

This online course will be synchronous, meaning students will meet together online. The class meeting will be conducted via Google Meet and include lecture, demonstrations, work time, and time to ask questions and get feedback on work.
