Creative Drawing

Using charcoal, graphite, and ink, students will focus on the expressive side of drawing through collaborative projects and abstract drawing exercises as they learn scale, value, mark making, shape, and the role of composition in the perception of a piece of art. The instructor will also address how drawing can be used to tell stories through discussions, demonstrations, and assignments. Students will view and discuss work by artists who have used drawing as a means to express emotions and ideas. Throughout the class, students will consider questions such as: How does an artist convey happiness, strength, resolve, preciousness, or sadness through the act of drawing? Students will learn how to use the skills they already have to express themselves creatively through the media of drawing. / Open to students ages 12–15. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies here.
