Creative Pattern Design (In-Person)

Patterns are important elements of design and art. The ability to design beautiful and balanced patterns is a valuable addition to the skillset of any art and design practitioner, from fine artist to fashion or graphic designer. This studio class offers an opportunity to learn creative pattern design techniques, develop personal visual language and get to know how patterns are designed for different uses. Through observation and mark making students will discover motives and rhythms all around them and learn how to transform them into an up-to-date collection of repeating patterns. / This course will use traditional techniques (non-digital) / Students may go in small groups to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for a short tour with the instructor. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
