Experimental Mapping

Maps are more than just tools to get from point A to B, they can also be amazing works of art. Students in this class will explore how artists and designers are using unique media that challenges the traditional idea of cartography. In this class, students will explore and discuss new methods of map-making including photo collage, art installation, video projection, psychogeography, infographics, sound art, and geo-tagging. Upon choosing a topic, each student will create their own map using the medium of their choice or develop a plan for an extensive longer term project. Each student will have access throughout the class to a lab workstation equipped with the latest software. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
