Exploration in Imagery and Structural Books (Online)

Explore image and pattern making while learning structural bookmaking techniques. Dive into materials, handmade and embellished paper, and revisit old works on paper to use as the building material for folded book structures. Image making techniques in this class will explore brush and ink, pen and ink, trace monotype, mixed media, stamping, dying, and using household items as mark makers. Book structure techniques will include variations on the accordion book, maze books, pop-up techniques, zines, and map fold structures. The possibility of a collaborative exchange project will be discussed.

Students will leave the class with a collection of images and book structures that can be used to display art, as journals, portable portfolios and unique objects to display.  The skills learned in this class can serve as the basis for further exploration in the art of folding and in the book arts. / No class July 5. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
