Girls Rock: Back to Nature (Nature Inspired Fashion Design)
Instructor:
Price:
$300.00

Nature can provide amazing inspiration for fashion! This week students will explore fashion and costume designers who draw inspiration from nature, including Julie Taymor who created costumes for The Lion King, and Alexander McQueen, whose stunning creations have been inspired by bird plumage, moth wings, flowers, and snake skin. The young artists will enjoy an inspirational field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to examine how artists who work in many mediums incorporate natural elements into their creations. Spend the week researching patterns in animals, plants, and landscapes, sketching ideas, painting “fabric”, and constructing garments. Students can then add unique sculptural elements using colorful recycled cardboard from packaging, colored wire, beads, and more. Friends and family are invited to Friday fashion show where students will wear and display their inventive, perhaps strange or startling, but certainly intriguing, creations! / Open to students ages 9-12. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies.
