The graphic memoir is a specific type of illustrated narrative designed to share a personal story. Through a combination of discussion, lecture, handouts, and exploration of existing graphic memoirs, learn to structure and script a story detailing one aspect of your life. An ability to draw and an understanding of the comic form are helpful but the emphasis will be more on writing than about art. During the class, students will have the opportunity to share work with one another and receive valuable feedback from their peers and from the instructor. / Open to students ages 16 and above. This online class will be synchronous, meaning students will meet together online. Class meetings will be conducted via Google Meet and include lectures, demonstrations, class discussions, exercises, work time, critiques, and time to ask questions and share resources.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. Familiarity with graphic narrative form helpful, but not required.

Required hardware: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work; word processing software preferred but not required; access to a printer is helpful, but not required.

Required supplies: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook.

Register Before: June 4
If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.

Class Savings
Register on or before May 10 and save $25.
Register for more than one class at a time and receive $25 off each additional class (same-day registrations only).
