Hand Lettering Workshop (Online)

This introductory workshop will outline the basics of creating illustrated letterforms and simple but effective typographic composition. Class sessions will be composed of group demonstrations covering basic letter anatomy, stylistic exploration, composition, techniques, and tools. There will be structured time for students to ask questions and receive feedback.  There will also be opportunities for individual student and instructor meetings to further discussion and feedback. / Open to students ages 16 and above. This online class will be synchronous, meaning students will meet together online. Synchronous class meetings on Thursdays from 6:30 pm-8 pm (CST) via Zoom for demonstrations, discussions, exercises, critiques, and time to ask questions and share resources. 90 minutes work time and office hours will follow for questions and one-on-one meetings with the Instructor. Class meetings will be recorded.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing experience is helpful, but not required.

Required hardware: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work.

Required supplies for first class: Any paper - white copy paper will be used for demonstration; pencil; ink pen - helpful to have a gel pen and a felt tip pen, but not necessary; eraser; ruler/straight edge. Students should expect to spend about $15 on supplies.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
