Introduction to Clamshell Box Construction

This short course will teach students how to build a clamshell portfolio box, suitable for the presentation and storage of photographs, prints, books or drawings.

During the class, students will learn how to accurately measure, cut materials, and build their own clamshell case to take home. All materials will be supplied and pre-cut to size prior to the start of class although recommended equipment, choice of book cloths, papers and the different adhesives and their uses will be discussed for those students who wish to continue constructing cases in their own time. Detailed worksheets and lists of suppliers will be provided.

This class will appeal primarily to printmakers, photographers and any artists working in 2D who wish to present, or store, their work in a hand-crafted portfolio box. No previous experience necessary. Students will not have access to the printshop outside of class. / This class will have a 30 minute lunch break. / Materials fee of $35 and facilities fee of $36 in addition to course tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

What to Wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity. Close-toed shoes are required.
