Introduction to Graphic Design

Graphic design is everywhere. From t-shirts to posters and logos to websites, graphic design is used to visually communicate an idea, a message, or a statement. Students in this class will explore graphic design theory and learn to put into practice the concepts and principles of design.

Hands-on, in-class exercises, and real world, structured assignments will immerse students in the elements of graphic design including typography, layout, color, and graphic form. Through detailed projects and exposure to current examples and contemporary practices, students will become aware of the creative process of graphic design. Students will develop concepts from an initial idea rendered in a sketchbook to final compositions using the Adobe Creative Cloud. Each student will have access throughout the class to a lab workstation equipped with the latest software. / Open to students ages 16 and above. / View complete policies. / This course is included in MCAD's Design Foundations certificate.
