Learn about illustration materials and techniques, and strengthen conceptual approaches to image making. The creative process will be discussed, from creating initial sketches to final illustration critiques. Lectures on contemporary illustrators and trends will help broaden your understanding of the field and its role in editorial, advertising, publishing, and packaging industries. Complete assignments designed to foster an understanding of where, when, and how illustration is used, and develop the skills needed to create successful illustrations. Both traditional and digital tools will be covered; approximately 70/30 traditional to digital assignments. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to course tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Mac OS X. Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are helpful but not required.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; USB drive or cloud storage option for saving work. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.
