Introduction to Modern Calligraphy

In this class, designed for those interested in hand-lettering, students will learn the basics of modern calligraphy: writing posture, ink control, and composition.

This relaxed studio class will focus on modern calligraphy, meaning that students will experiment with ways to embellish and compose their natural handwriting rather than striving for traditional uniform standards. Students will learn to control the ink so that they gain the ability to write in whichever style feels most natural and appeals to their aesthetic sensibility. As a result, class time will mainly be an environment of practice and experimentation where the pace is set by each individual student. After initial lettering demonstrations, the instructor will be available for technique coaching, advice, and discussion as much or as little as each individual student requires. / Materials fee of $30 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 16 and above. / View complete policies.
