Launching Your Startup (Online)

This interactive course is designed for those looking to develop and launch their own startup as well as for independent professionals seeking to scale their existing business practice. From initial ideation and concepting to go-to-market strategy and growth, participants will learn the essential steps to developing and building their own branded enterprise. The course will draw from industry best practices in market research, business plan development, financing, team development, product-market fit, branding, positioning, marketing communications, and sales. The course will look at what to consider for choosing an organization structure — DBA, LLC, S-Corp, B-Corp, nonprofit, etc. — and will address both product offerings and service offerings. Course learning and skill development will be practical and applied, involving class lectures, ideation exercises and prototyping, assigned readings and media resources, role-play, open discussion, and guided research exercises. Participants will gain the confidence to leverage their expertise and their creativity to develop a thriving enterprise or consultancy. / No class July 5. / Open to students ages 18 and above. This online course will be synchronous, meaning students will meet together online. Class meetings will be conducted via Zoom and include lectures, demonstrations, discussions, exercises, time to ask questions and share resources, research, ideation sessions, prototyping, pitch role-play and coaching.

Required hardware: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work.

Required supplies for first class: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
