Learning from the Masters: The Ten Most Influential Painters of the 20th Century

Learning From the Masters is a class designed to take your painting skills to the next level by studying the work of some of the greatest, and most influential painters of the 20th century. Learning by imitation is a well-established tradition in art education and challenges the student to think outside their own box and painter's skill set. Classroom painting practice will be enriched by art history lessons aimed at deepening our understanding of the artists, their methods, techniques and concepts. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to course tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing experience. Beginning Painting class or equivalent experience.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; two sheets of 22 x 30" Arches cover white paper; one 18 x 24" drawing board (or larger); one 32 oz. container of acrylic gesso; gesso brush; roll of white artist's tape; one 32 oz. container of Gamsol odorless mineral spirits; 12 x 16" pad of disposable palette paper; cloth rags; one 37ml oil paint tube each of Phthalo green and Alizarin crimson; two metal palette knives. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

What to wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
