Marine Marvels (Underwater Exploration in Art)

Something fishy is going on around here! In this deep-sea inspired class students will dive into drawing, painting and sculpting and learn more about life underwater. The week will start by exploring artworks by artists such as Robert Wyland, who uses his life-size paintings of whales and other sea creatures to raise awareness around environmental issues, Japanese artist Hokusai who is most well known for his woodblock print of the Great Wave off of Kanagawa, and of course Henri Matisse, with his stylized depiction of goldfish. The class will also visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art to be further inspired by ocean-themed artworks. Throughout the week, students will create drawings of sea life, sculpt sea life creatures and plants using fabric and paper mache, and create a wonderful exhibition by the end of the week to share with family and friends! / Open to students ages 9-12. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies.
