Title:
Personal Voice and Vision in Photography
Instructor:
Price:
$403.00

Every day, we are confronted with a deluge of images. A staggering number of digital images are uploaded to the internet every single day, not to mention all of the photographs we encounter in the world around us. With such a glut of images, how does a photographer rise above the noise? What makes a photograph by a specific artist recognizable? What distinguishes a worthwhile photograph and raises it to the level of art? Whether you work in still life, narrative, abstract, street, portraiture, or any other style of photography, your personal voice is paramount. In this course, we will work on ways to identify and develop your own unique voice and vision as it applies to photography, regardless of your subject matter. Through lecture and discussion, we will look at a diverse cast of historical and contemporary photographers to identify what makes their work stand out. Each week, students will work to experiment with new projects, or develop an existing project. Through critique, as well as individual, one-on-one, and group exercises, students will have the opportunity to discover or strengthen their own personal approach to photography. / Each student will have access throughout the class to a lab workstation equipped with the latest software. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of film or digital photography and have a project, approach, or style in mind that they're looking to expand and articulate.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; USB drive or cloud storage option for saving work; examples of current and past work.
