Picture This: Introductory Tapestry Weaving (Hybrid)

Tapestry weaving with yarns and fibers can serve as a vehicle to connect the physicality of making with elements of history. Tapestry weaving has been practiced across cultures for over two thousand years. A tapestry can be created using simple weaving techniques and inexpensive tools making it an accessible artform. This workshop will teach participants how to build and warp a simple loom; learn and apply fundamental weaving and tapestry techniques. Using newly acquired skills, the class will weave together in a collaborative atmosphere. The instructor will address fiber choices and the preparation and use of the cartoon for pictorial design, fiber color mixing and the place of tapestry in contemporary art and design.
