Learn about and engineer artwork that moves! This class will teach students about sculptor Alexander Calder’s large and small-scale mobiles and local artists Dean Lucker and Ann Wood’s kinetic artworks. Discover other examples of art that move during a field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Throughout the week, students will make mobiles, marble runs, box theaters, tops, and pull-string puppets--all artworks with a moving element! Students will develop their understanding of concepts like balance, variety, and unity. On Friday, families and friends are invited to view the well-engineered masterpieces.
