Sweet Creations (Art Inspired by Food)

Become a confectioner in this fun filled week of art inspired by candy and other sweet treats. Students will use both traditional and more out of the ordinary art materials to create drawings, paintings, and sculptures that revolve around goodies and desserts. Learn about and explore the work of artists such as Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, who created the sundae-inspired Spoonbridge and Cherry in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, and Wayne Thiebaud, who is known for his eye-catching paintings of candy, cupcakes, and other confections. The class will take a trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to look at artworks featuring food and candy while collecting ideas for our own sweet creations. The week will end with a bake shop inspired art exhibit for the families and friends to adore! Please note actual food/candy will not be used. / Open to students ages 9-12. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies.
