Teen Painting: Tools and Techniques

This introductory class is designed to provide an overview of painting fundamentals. Students will be exposed to a variety of approaches and techniques from past to present with a focus on color theory and the act of painting from observation. Instruction will be driven by live demonstrations, lectures and one-on-one coaching, but the majority of this class will consist of studio time. Utilizing water based and acrylic mediums, students will be given the opportunity to explore a range of subject matter and techniques in pursuit of creating finished pieces for their expanding portfolios. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 15–18. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies here.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing and painting experience helpful, but not required. What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; Any painting supplies you typically use at home; 18 x 24" mixed media paper; canvas board; acrylic paint brushes (round, filbert, bright or flat brushes); a set of basic acrylic paints (black, white, red, yellow and blue). A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting. / Students should anticipate an additional cost of roughly $75-100 in total for materials (not included in tuition).

What to wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity, comfortable footwear for standing.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
