Through the Lens: Introduction to Digital Photography (Online)

From still lifes to selfies, portraits to panoramas, photography requires a trained eye and technical skills. Pick up tips and tricks from an experienced photographer. Students will experiment with tools, techniques, and materials with guidance and inspiration from photographers from different time periods. Whether you’re just getting started or you’re a seasoned shutterbug, be inspired by traditional and contemporary photo professionals, creative thinking, and your own photographic expression. / Open to students ages 12–15. This virtual class will meet daily via Google Meet. A group meeting will be held at 1 p.m. each day for 60-90 minutes. The meetings will consist of demonstrations, technique lessons, artist examples, discussions, reflection and feedback sessions, and opportunities for students to ask questions. Students will work independently on assignments and projects with the instructor available online to answer questions and give feedback. The students and instructor will meet at the end of each day to check-in and reflect. 

Prerequisites: Some photography experience is helpful, but not required. 

Required hardware: A computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work. Tablet or smartphone with a working camera and ability to download apps. A digital camera is an optional.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
