A Travel Sketchbook: Drawing on Location (In-Person)

This fun, on-location class offers students at all skill levels an opportunity to sketch together outdoors and at unique urban locales in Minneapolis, while learning the techniques to capture the people, environment, architecture, and nuances of the visual landscape. Students will learn or refine basic drawing techniques at the beginning of each class and the instructor will provide individual instruction through the class. Each class will meet at a different urban location in Minneapolis that pairs best with the topics of the day. Classes meet on location at Minneapolis Sculpture Garden 7/10/2021; Lakewood Cemetery 7/17/2021; Mississippi River 7/24/2021; and the Minneapolis Rose Garden 7/31/2021. / Class will be rescheduled in case of rain (active raining, not the threat of rain, or damp ground) / Open to students ages 16 and above. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to the locations listed. Participants in this course will be required to follow current CDC guidelines: maintain a minimum of 6' physical distance from others, and wear a face covering over nose and mouth when 6' of distance is difficult to maintain. If guidelines change, participants will be notified. No supplies or materials will be shared. 

Required supplies for first class: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; pad of newsprint paper (11 x 14” or 14 x 17”); pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B); pencil sharpener; eraser; watercolors (cheap sets are fine) or watercolor pencils. Students should expect to spend about $25 on supplies. Optional supplies: Colored drawing pencils; drawing pen(s) with waterproof ink; lawn chair or blanket to sit on; water bottle.

What to wear: Wear clothes appropriate to outdoor weather, including hats, sunscreen, and mosquito repellant; a face mask.

Register Before: July 5
If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.

Class Savings
Register on or before May 10 and save $25.
Register for more than one class at a time and receive $25 off each additional class (same-day registrations only).
