Title:
Treehouses, Forts, and Secret Spaces (Building Miniature Worlds)
Instructor:
Price:
$300.00

Create a miniature treehouse, fort, or hideout with hiding places and secret spaces, while learning the basics of making table-top sized sculpture. In this class students will use scrap wood, wood turnings, corks, bottle caps, dowels, string and more to create miniature ladders, slides, pulleys, tunnels and other complex and amazing imaginings. Throughout the week students will learn about contemporary artist Liza Lou, who beaded an entire kitchen with thousands of tiny beads, and sculpture Alexander Calder who created an incredible miniature circus he could carry in a suitcase. A fun field-trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art is planned to experience special architectural traditions; a Chinese study room, a Japanese teahouse and the fascinating carved jade piece, Jade Mountain. On Friday, friends and family are invited to an exhibition to explore the richly imagined worlds created during the week! Open to students ages 9-12. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete policies.
