Woodblock Printing

Relief printmaking methods have a rich history, and through this course students will learn details of that history while developing skills through hands-on exercises. During the course, students will focus on woodblock relief processes, and will complete three projects to gain proficiency with the materials. The course will be administered through slide presentations, process demonstrations, and peer/individual critiques in small groups. This course will begin with basic one color woodcut methods. Students will be shown examples of many different carving techniques. The class will learn how to handle the oil based inks, safe use of printing equipment, proper proofing steps, and printing techniques. Students will then use this one color block to create a multi block print as they explore color and layering. During the final project, students will develop their skills further with reductive woodcut methods. / Materials fee of $10 and facilities fee of $38 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 16 and above. / View complete policies.
