Commencement Speaker: Leon Hushcha ’68
Freedom of expression has been Leon Hushcha’s lifelong pursuit and passion. Creating both paintings and large-scale works, Hushcha paints with acrylic and oil on canvas, wood, found materials, and paper. Of Ukrainian descent, Hushcha was born in 1946 in Villach, Austria, where his family lived in a displaced persons camp before immigrating to the United States in 1950. Hushcha received his BFA from MCAD and MFA from the University of Minnesota, later teaching painting at both institutions. His work is showcased at Hushcha Studio and is displayed in numerous public and private collections around the country. Hushcha resides in Minneapolis with his wife and their happy cat Bella.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Main Gallery, where work by graduating students is on display. Light refreshments and musical entertainment will be provided.
