Join the class of Spring 2017 as they celebrate the completion of their degrees in the departments of fine arts, media arts, design, and entrepreneurial studies.

Tickets are required to attend the ceremony. A public reception will follow in MCAD's Main Gallery.

The ceremony will be live streamed for those unable to attend.

Marianne Combs, Commencement Address
Marianne Combs has reported on arts and culture for Minnesota Public Radio News since 2000. In that time she has covered everything from racial inequities in arts funding to steampunk fashion. Some of her favorite in-depth reports include “Art Heroes,” a series of profiles of artists using their talents to make the world a better place, and “Life By Design,” a look at how design shapes our lives, our future, where we live, and what we buy.

Patrick JB Flynn ’76, Alumni Achievement Award
Patrick JB Flynn was born in Minnesota and raised in South Dakota. He began his career as an illustrator and art director for Metropolis in Minneapolis. In 1977, Flynn moved to New York for a position as designer and art director for the New York Times. In 1981, he relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, to serve as design and art director for the Progressive magazine. He has designed many books and publications including the Runner, New York Metro, Isthmus, Sing Out!, the Texas Observer, Business Ethics, the Progressive, Rethinking Schools, and most recently served as design and art director for the Baffler. Flynn has curated a number of illustration exhibits and taught at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. In 2008, he was awarded the Richard Gangel Award for Art Direction by the Society of Illustrators. He is currently proprietor of The Flynstitute.
