Isa Gagarin

Born in Guam and raised in Hawai’i, Isa Gagarin is a visual artist based in Minneapolis. She received her MFA in painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018, and holds a BFA in painting from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (2008).

Gagarin's artistic practice includes drawing, painting, writing, video, and performance. Her work draws connections between autobiography and perceptual experiences of color.

Gagarin has held solo exhibitions throughout Minnesota including Midway Contemporary Art (2009), Kiehle Gallery at St. Cloud University (2012), and the White Page (2016). She has participated in group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including Amsterdam (the Netherlands) Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City (Mexico), Minneapolis, and Richmond (Virginia). Her work is published in several artist books, including Aposiopesis (Minneapolis: Wopozi, 2015), When Her Son Flies in the Sky (Minneapolis: Dressing Room, 2011), and Location: Volume 1 (Minneapolis: Location Books, 2010).
