Tom DeBiaso is an educator, filmmaker, and photographer. He established MCAD's media arts department and master of fine arts program and has served as dean of studio programs.
After graduate school DeBiaso founded the regional education and media access center Film In The Cities and has had a lifelong commitment to teaching and the advancement of art and design education. He is an advisory board member of IFP Minnesota Center for Media Arts and on the board of the Film Society of Minneapolis/Saint Paul. He is an academic program evaluator for National Association of Colleges of Art and Design and the Higher Learning Commission.
He has served on the Minnesota Governor’s Commission on the Arts, the Minneapolis City Arts Commission, and as a panelist with the Minnesota Artist Exhibition Program at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
DeBiaso's creative work has involved over fifty solo and group exhibitions as well as visiting artist's presentations in a variety of venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Artists Space, Harvard University, Pasadena Film Forum, University of Southern California, SIGGRAPH, the Walker Art Center, La Celeste Art Center in Beijing, China, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany. Recently his work has been shown at the Larissa Goldstone Gallery in New York City and he was a programmer for the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. His documentary video clients include Job Corps, the Guthrie Theater Lab, Community of Peace Academy, LISC, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
In 2012 DeBiaso received a Lifetime Achievement Award from IFP Minnesota for his commitment to education and the arts.
In addition to his professional work he is an avid collector of mid-century Scandinavian, German, and Italian ceramics and objects.
