Last weekend, MCAD students got their boogie on at Mia for the annual Black and White Ball, with this year's theme being Hypnocise.

The night began with a pizza party in the packed College Center, where everyone was enjoying free food and meeting up with their friends for the night. Students were dressed in Halloween costumes and mesmerizing black-and-white ensembles since it is a Black and White Ball, after all. This year's theme was Hypnocise, a combination of the words hypnotic and exercise, which many students interpreted with getups featuring strange patterns and garments you might expect to see in a yoga studio. When the clock struck ten, everyone gathered and marched across the lawn for the main event at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia).

The party room was aglow with a mix of shimmying lights that bathed the dance floor in color. Students piled onto the dance floor immediately, excited to dance the night away with their classmates. Above their heads, large balloons floated and bounced around the space, reacting to the energy in the room; it was a chaotic wonderland of movement and music all night long.

The music evolved throughout the night, keeping the dance floor on their toes. Between the two DJs, DJ Punishment and DJ Just Nine, and the live music performance from Astralblak, everyone was loving the changing styles all night long. The crowd loved Astralblak so much, they were cheered back on stage for an encore. At one point in the night, the entire dance floor turned into a gigantic conga line that everyone took part in. So, you know it was a good time.

If it was possible to get tired of dancing, the party didn't stop once you left the dance floor. Students also enjoyed the unlimited photo booth stocked with all kinds of spooky props to pose with. They gave their best poses throughout the night (and well into the morning) and took massive group photos with everyone who wasn't busy dancing the night away. Students were also taking their own photos in front of the light-covered balloons and strange, hypnotic images surrounding the space. As expected, the refreshment table was also a hot spot all night long as dancers took quick breaks to regain energy via everyone's favorite dancing fuel: chips and salsa.

The Black and White Ball: Hypnocize was a huge hit! Between the fantastic music, creative theme, and great snacks, the dance floor was packed all night long. It was great to cut loose (and cut a rug) with new friends as a break from school. Everyone had such a blast that we are all already looking forward to next year's dance; if only it wasn't so far away!
