“My series, RESPITE, creates a narrative of comfort and domesticity in contemporary America.”

Hannah Farrel is the latest student to show work in Gallery 148 on MCAD's campus. The show RESPITE is filled with her signature vibrant, textural paintings and a good dose of humor. “By referencing social media and candid imagery I am commenting on the way we present ourselves to other people,” she says. “My paintings are created from photos and considered retrospectively in order to carry the subtle and underlying complexities of life.”

Gallery visitors were also delighted with a visit from Hannah's cat Sir, who kept an eye on things throughout the evening. "What I hope first and foremost is that people see the pride in every painting. I am choosing what to define in each painting and I am specific with the details. My paintings are a love letter to the people and cats in my life."
