Each summer MCAD Continuing Education offers eight weeks of summer fun for kids of all ages.

At MCAD, you won't find just any summer camps—you'll find some of the most innovative and immersive studio arts experiences available in the Twin Cities. Featuring unique themes every week, our Monday through Friday camps inspire your child's self-expression, develop playful creativity, and instill a passion for learning.

Continuing Education Instructor Mary Henry is teaching eight camps this summer, taking place in both the mornings and afternoons throughout June, July, and August. Each unique camp offers different projects and themes to inspire your child's creativity.

"I love the creativity of these young artists. They’re not afraid to take risks and are excited to make art every day!"

What classes are you especially excited about this summer?

I’m excited about ALL of my classes this summer, but I’m really looking forward to teaching my Around the World in Five Days camp. This camp combines two of my passions: art and travel. I’m hoping that by teaching about art-making traditions in other countries, students will be inspired and eager to learn more about different cultures.

What is your favorite thing about teaching these young artists?

I love the creativity of these young artists. They’re not afraid to take risks and are excited to make art every day! They inspire me to make art.

Why would parents want their students to take these classes?

These classes are led by passionate teachers and amazing teaching assistants who love art! Each child is encouraged to be creative, innovative, and to just have fun!

What do you do when you aren't teaching classes at MCAD in the summer?

I have a tradition of taking one big trip each summer. This summer I’m going to Northern Italy and Switzerland for a few weeks. I’ll get to see DaVinci’s Last Supper! I also plan to be outside a lot this summer, whether biking, running, or camping.

What has been a favorite memory from a summer class?

Last year I taught a printmaking camp and we screenprinted designs onto canvas tote bags. It was so much fun to see students of such a young age learn this process and be successful with it!

Do you have a project you are most looking forward to this summer?

I’m really looking forward to creating characters in my Comic Book Creations class in August. It will be fun to see what the young artists create and how they’ll create a story based on their characters.

What inspires you artistically?

I am inspired by invented narratives, moments of nostalgia, the environment, light, geometric shapes, intriguing juxtapositions, and strong compositions.

Each child is encouraged to be creative, innovative, and to just have fun!
