Work by Betsy Alwin

MCAD faculty member Betsy Alwin's ceramic and mixed media sculptures were included in three exhibitions in March and April.

Alwin's work was first featured in Driving South Mostly in a Straight Line: Rosalux Gallery in Austin, Texas, at the ICOSA gallery through March 30. Alwin's work was also included in Unapologetic, Women's Ceramics in the Land of Mingei-Sota at the Northrup King Building in Northeast Minneapolis, which was open through April 7. Finally, her work has been on display at the Rubine Red Gallery in Palm Springs, California, for their Grand Opening Group Show since March 30.

Over the years, Alwin has researched and developed a process of fabricating and casting “ceramic lace.” Through her lace, cast ceramic slip forms, and mixed media sculptures and installations, she evokes a tension between beauty, strength and fragility.
