I Like Me by Nancy Carlson
I Like Me by Nancy Carlson

The Sun Post covered alum Nancy Carlson's recent visit to the School of Engineering and Arts in Golden Valley.

During her visit, Carlson read two of her children's books and workshopped with the students. The first book she read, I Like Me, features an enthusiastic main character that fills the pages with uplifting sentiments about self-love and resilience. She also read Start Saving Henry, a book about a mouse saving up for his favorite toy.

After she read, Carlson encouraged students to help her come up with a new storyline and stressed the importance of good illustration in storytelling.

“Sometimes you can get clues from the pictures about what’s happening in a story and sometimes the pictures might give you an idea of what’s about to happen to next.” —Carlson
