CarryOn Homes is the combined effort of Zoe Cinel ’18, MFA, Preston Drum ’16, MFA, Peng Wu ’13, MFA, Shun Jie Yong ’18, MFA, and Aki Shibata. Being an artist group comprised of immigrants and transplants, they have experienced the difficulty of adapting to a new cultural context while attempting to maintain a sense of identity and find a community. Being an immigrant in the USA is a complicated condition that is both humbling and empowering. Drawing on this experience they seek to create artworks that offer a sense of belonging to those who are disenfranchised.

Public art designed to celebrate the contribution of immigrants and honor former St. Paul Mayor Larry Cohen, who championed their inclusion in Minnesota, soon will adorn the plaza in front of the St. Paul City Hall-Ramsey County Courthouse building. CarryOn Homes will be displayed first at the corner of Kellogg Boulevard and Wabasha Street in downtown St. Paul. It will run through November 24.
