The Shop

MCADians Noah Lawrence-Holder, CRICE Khalil, Candice Davis, Ta–coumba T. Aiken, Emma Eubanks, Bobby Rogers, and Malakai Davis-Greiner are featured in the latest exhibition at Public Functionary.

The Shop is a multimedia art exhibition based on the iconography and culture of the Black barbershop. The work will showcase a variety of disciplines including painting, photography, printmaking, drawings, and digital art. All of the pieces share different perspectives on the importance of the barbershop experience to the Black community.

"Black hair, historically an object of ridicule, has evolved into a symbol of pride and rebellion. The barbershop is a microcosm of the African American experience. It is a place where past, present, and future combine and authenticity is valued most."
