Work by Geoff Mitchell

Geoff Mitchell ’99, MFA, is showcasing his artwork in the exhibit Magic Lanterns Ghost Stories and Fairytales. The exhibit includes thirty-three paintings, a music soundtrack, a book, and Mitchell's exploration of a new medium: miniatures. Mitchell's inspiration for creating miniatures came from the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through attraction inside the corridors of Disneyland's castle, stop-motion film sets, and the Thorne Miniature Rooms of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Speaking about the inspiration for his work, Mitchell says, “for the multimedia part of the exhibition, the miniature rooms started with an interest in making a stop-motion film. I’ve made some short films in the past, and it’s been in my list of things I want to do, a stop-motion short."
