Erika Ritzel ’06, MFA, is releasing her book It's Hard to Find Home Again

This series of photographs were created while thinking about the connection between her parents, her hometown, their evolving relationships over the years, and the difficulty of being geographically separated. The images show activities and events that have occurred throughout their lives together—shoveling the driveway, eating breakfast, chores in the backyard—as well as metaphors of time and change found in the environment around them. All of the images were taken around her hometown in Illinois or in the Twin Cities area.

A majority of Ritzel's photographic work deals with space, family, memory, nostalgia, and loss. She is a fiscal year 2018 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
