From the Blacker the Berry series by Bobby Rogers

Bobby Rogers ’14 recently spoke with CityLab about his creative career thus far.

As a contemporary social historian and social influencer, Rogers's photography work originally centered on documenting anti-police brutality protests. Although Rogers began his artistic career as an illustrator, he says “After Philando [Castille] was killed by Officer Yanez, I understood that my individual perspective, not anyone else’s, is how I should tell the story of my people, with my people, for my people, and to my people." This motivated him to move his focus to photography. He says that. although his practice and aesthetic have changed as the movement changed, his desire to stay true to his perspective has never wavered.

Rogers will be talking more about his practice at this month's Creative Mornings Minneapolis.
