Updates & COVID App

Dear MCAD Community,

Last week, there was a series of announcements reducing in person interactions on campus in order to reduce the potential for virus transmission. We appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness and understanding as we responded to the Minnesota Governor's Order 20-99 dialing back activities. The MCAD COVID-19 Preparedness Plan was updated with these operational changes and policy updates.

Included below is a recap of information shared last week along with new policy changes;

  • Returning from Thanksgiving Break: The 11/20/2020 email announcement includes requirements for returning to campus following the Thanksgiving Break. These requirements include a 14-day quarantine if you traveled out-of-state, getting tested if you socialized with anyone outside of your household, and students who return home for Thanksgiving are asked to stay home if possible until the start of spring semester
  • Facilities & Campus Support Areas: The 11/24/2020 email announcement includes office and operational dial back measures detailing a reduction of in-person interactions on campus.
  • New Face Covering Policy: Bandanas and neck gaiters are no longer acceptable forms of face coverings. This is due to research showing that bandanas don’t seal well around the mouth and neck gaiters are generally porous due to their elasticity. The MCAD Public Safety Office has free cloth face masks available to anyone who needs a mask.
  • COVIDaware MN App: The State of Minnesota has created a mobile app to help slow the spread of COVID19 called COVIDaware MN.  MCAD encourages it’s community to strongly consider downloading this app today. See last week’s email from Computer Support for more information.

As always, if you have any COVID symptoms, have tested positive for COVID, have been identified as a close contact, or live with someone who has been identified as a close contact; you need to stay home and send an email to staysafestudent@mcad.edu for students and staysafestaff@mcad.edu for faculty and staff. Timely communication allows us to protect the broader community and work with you on a safe return to MCAD.

Let us know if you have any COVID-related questions by emailing staysafe@mcad.edu. Please continue to wear a mask, practice physical-distancing, and use proper hygiene.

Thank you,

Brock Rasmussen
