Winter Break and Return to MCAD
Share:

Dear MCAD Students, Staff, and Faculty,

With our winter break just days away, I send my best wishes to you and your loved ones. Though we cannot gather with friends and family as we have in previous times, our MCAD community has worked hard to support each other in remarkable and dynamic ways. Now looking forward, I want to provide updated information that should be helpful in your planning for the upcoming semester.

Student Emergency Funds

Through the efforts of our Development team and generous donors, we have received significant contributions to the MCAD Emergency Student Assistance Fund. With $136,000 of the $200,000 already awarded to students, this fund continues to allow students to request up to $500 at one time to pay for rent, food, transportation, medical expenses, and academic needs. Students may also request funds more than once on an as-needed basis before December 24 and after January 3. Additionally, students who are experiencing immediate food insecurity can get help from the MCAD Food Grant. Please send requests by email to Student Affairs.

Access to Campus & Facilities

I am deeply appreciative of everyone's efforts in keeping our COVID-19 positivity rates well below state and national averages. During the first week of classes from January 25 through January 31, MCAD offices will continue providing contactless, curbside services; additionally individual student studios will be open. Beginning February 1, areas such as the Print Shop, 3D shop, Help Desk, Library, Media Center, and Service Bureau will be open for in-person services in the same manner as with Fall Semester. For more detailed information, go to Section 7 in the MCAD COVID-19 Preparedness Plan or visit the resources page on the MCAD Intranet. Information will be updated throughout winter break.

With yesterday’s announcement from the Minnesota Governor’s office, we are reopening the fitness center. Appointments can be made in the Places and Spaces reservation system beginning Saturday, December 19 at midnight. As a reminder for hours and access across the campus, please go to MCAD Winter Break Information.

Testing Before Returning

In order to reduce potential exposure, all students living in MCAD residence halls will need to take a COVID test beginning on January 18. More details about these tests will be provided soon. Students will need to quarantine in their apartment units until receiving and submitting a negative test result to covidtest@mcad.edu. Students who do not provide test results will have on-campus-access privileges restricted and be required to quarantine until the test results are provided. Resident students who traveled out of state are expected to quarantine in their apartment for two weeks upon return to campus in addition to taking the COVID test.

I want to express my thanks to all of you for taking care of yourselves and your community.

Despite many challenges, we are still making, engaging, building, and learning. From upcoming exhibitions like the MCAD-Jerome Fellowship Exhibition to a group alumni show called America, I Sing You Back, which highlights how MCAD artists have creatively and bravely faced the pandemic, politics, and civil unrest, we continue to be a vibrant, resilient and empathic community.

All my best to you and your families and best wishes for a healthy, creative 2021,

Sanjit
