Architectural design by Karen Wirth and MSR Architects

MCAD Professor and Vice President of Academic Affairs Karen Wirth was featured in a Star Tribune article about public art at transit stations in the Twin Cities. Many factors contribute to the deterioration of the installed art at the transit stations, such as years of wear-and-tear from the weather and vandalism, and as a result, many of the stations of the metro's two light rail lines will be slated for a face-lift in coming months.

Wirth, the artist coordinator for the Blue Line architectural design team and a co-designer for four of the line's stations, tells the Star Tribune that the selection and installation of work is a “dynamic process. You have to really pay attention to what people say, but you're also designing within certain constraints.”
