Botanical Relief Printmaking: Linocut (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Botanical Relief Printmaking: Linocut (in person)

Be inspired by the rich history of botanical printmaking and learn the basics of linocut printing, including carving, layering inks and printing multiples.

Using local plant material as subject matter, while also exploring examples from both the golden age of botanical art in the 18th and 19th centuries and contemporary times, create a variety of linocut prints. Learn the basics of relief printing, how to design, transfer and carve a block, along with color theory to create single and multiple color prints. In the linocut reductive color printing technique, the block is carved and printed, then carved and printed again with a different color. Students are also encouraged to bring in their own plant materials, as well as drawings and sketches to use as inspiration. / Materials fee of $29 and facility fee of $144 in addition to the course tuition. Please review the Printshop Facility Fees Supply List for more information.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
