Art and Design Classes for Kids and Teens

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design offers outstanding art and design classes and week-long summer camps for kids and teens ages five to eighteen. These unique classes are tailored to encourage the dynamic creativity of children and teens at each level of their development. Innovative, professional art educators encourage a fun and experimental studio environment.

Pre-College Summer Sessions
This two-week residential summer art program provides teens 16-18 with the chance to experience the life of an art and design student, live on the MCAD campus, build a portfolio, learn from professional artists and designers, and earn two college credits.

Teen art classes designed to help high school students build a successful portfolio for admissions to art and design college. Classes and workshops are offered year-round.

Fun and exciting hands-on kids and teens art and design classes and camps throughout the year.

These week-long summer kids art camps combine creative themes with fun and challenging hands-on projects that change every week. Classes meet daily from 9:00 a.m.–noon or 1:00–4:00 p.m.

These week-long, full-day summer art camps capture the passion and imagination of kids in older primary and middle school grades. Kids are encouraged to work together to learn, think, design, build, and create in new and exciting ways. Classes meet daily from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Young teen art and design classes are designed to introduce students to a variety of mediums, processes, materials, and ideas. Teens will develop technical skills and learn how to translate their ideas into visual form.

Throughout the year, teens can explore topics like animation, comic art, graphic design, photography, Web design, painting, and welding. During the year, students ages 16 and older may also take many adult Continuing Studies classes.

Week-long intensive teen art and design classes provide high school students ages 16-18 the opportunity to explore a college-like curriculum in paired topics such as drawing and painting; graphic design and illustration; and filmmaking and digital photography.
