Katinka Galanos is still interested in the possibilities of quiet, real fictions conjured by still and moving images—even after many years of working with photography, film, and video. Because culture eternally spins an evolving cotton-candy mass of understanding and confusion regarding how we use, engage, and participate in recorded image-making. As to her own work, she practices, experiments, and pays attention, intuitively and quizzically. In her practice she mostly fails, sometimes succeeds, becomes uninterested, or revealingly ecstatic. Galanos is a recent recipient of the State Arts Board Media Arts Artist Initiative Grant and the Jerome Emerging Printmakers’ Residency. She has exhibited both locally and internationally at Art of This, the Soap Factory, Minnesota Museum of American Art, Katherine E. Nash Gallery, Fieldgate Gallery in London, Beijing Film Academy in China, and 7.Stock in Germany. Her film and video work has been screened at the Rochester Art Center, the Weisman Art Museum, and the Walker Art Center.
