She/Her https://www.woodmanmaynard.com/ Comic Arts In-person, Online, Hybrid mentor BIO I’m a graphic novelist based in Minneapolis who works in combination of digital and traditional watercolor techniques. My debut graphic novel, an adaptation of the THE GREAT GATSBY (Candlewick Press) came out in 2021 and was called, “hugely rewarding,” by The Wall Street Journal. I’m also co-creator of TKAMI: Talk to Kids About Mental Illness, a free resource for helping adults talk to kids about mental illness through comics. I’m currently working on another adaptation for middle grade ages as well as several other graphic novel projects. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP Ever since graduating from liberal arts undergrad, I’ve made a living with my art–but it’s been in a variety of areas: animation, graphic design, a greeting card business, illustration, and graphic novels. So I have a wide-range of experience with working with businesses, clients, and publishing. I’m definitely business-minded for an artist, so my focus will be on encouraging practical thinking as a way to enable one to make a living as an artist. I’ll also encourage figuring out ways to set up habits and lifestyle choices that make space for a creative practice.
